DFB strikes down hard against Grafite
By: j | August 16th, 2008The DFB made a clear statement on violence in the sport as it has handed down a surprising two match ban to Grafite for the red-card infraction in the recent friendly against Palermo friendly. In addition to this ban he has been handed a five-match ban in friendlies. In issuing to penalty, Hans E. Lorenz, who presides over the DFB’s committee, noted such behaviour was not compatible with the spirit of the sport.

I think Grafite had two things going against him which made the penalty more severe than you would expect–first, he’s a repeat offender, given his multi-match ban (was it 5?) from last year. Second, he’s one of the higher profile stars on a team that’s really emerging, so he’s definitely going to get more punishment than say, a reserve defender for Cottbus. That’s how it goes in any sport, in any county.

I hope he learns something from this ban. Grafite is my most hated player in the league because he does it all: faking injuries, general play acting, diving and violent outbursts.
