Die Wölfe UEFA Cup draw results
By: j | October 7th, 2008Wolfsburg has been drawn into Group E of the UEFA Cup.
The competition now enters the Group Stage with the top three clubs surviving to the next round. Divided into eight groups of five clubs, the matches begin on the 23rd of October, continuing on November 6 and 27 and followed-up on 3/4 and 17/18 December. At that time the round of thirty-two will commence with the teams that finished first and third will be paired, with the runners-up meeting the clubs presently competing in the UEFA Champions League.
Group E contains Seria A giant and a pre-tournament favourite by many, AC Milan, SC Heerenveen of the Eredivisie, Portugal’s SC Braga and Portsmouth of England’s Premier League.
Tactical planning will be key in this area and Felix Magath will need to deploy a tighter defensive line to advance. However if played correctly, this is a perfect opportunity for Wolfsburg to succeed.

Don’t know about Braga, but you’re in for a real fight in this group stage against everyone else.

You know what? I like their chances. The only negative in their draw is that they have to play away to Milan. There’s nobody else in the group that Wolfsburg shouldn’t defeat. I’m not sold on Pompey, I think Heerenveen are a step off since Bradley left, and I can’t tell you a damn thing about Braga.

Bayern had to play Braga in last year’s UEFA Cup and only managed a 1:1 draw. Bremen then played them in the knockout stages and won both matches. If Wolfsburg show a bit more enthusiasm than Bayern, then they should be able to get a good result.

How are Zacco and Barzagli doing? I certainly don’t miss Barzagli’s sorry ass at Palermo but I regret selling Zacco. He was one of my favorite players, and very versatile in the backline.
