Edin Džeko honoured as best in the Bundesliga

By: j | June 2nd, 2009

As in the old adage “to the victor, goes the spoils”, Wolfsburg is continuing to the reap rewards after winning the Bundesliga title.

Edin Džeko was named Germany’s footballer of the year in the professionals poll, as reported by Football media giant Kicker with teammate Grafite finishing second.

The twenty-three year old Sarajevo native joined Wolfsburg from Czech side FK Teplice and has quickly emerged as a deadly scorer, notching twenty-six goals during the recent campaign.

Felix Magath, now of Schalke, was honoured as top coach.

Now of-course the big question for all Wolfsburg supporters, can they keep the young Bosnian sharpshooter?

I’d like to think so. But interest in Džeko is obviously going to be high. What do you think j? Do the club have the financial power/will to hold on to him?

Daryl, I think it really depends on how much “weight” an offer comes in with. Wolfsburg has the resources but they are going to manage its funds well and not be shy of selling a player when a top dollar is presented. This will be interesting because there aren’t many clubs that can come up with a major offer this summer.

Bigger clubs would come up with the offers, but it is just necessary for Wolfsburg to keep him. Another great year in Wolfsburg would definitely double Edin Džeko’s price.
