

Edin Džeko leads Wolfsburg to 2-1 victory over Hertha BSC

Bosnia and Herzegovina international Edin Džeko led Wolfsburg to 2-1 victory over Hertha BSC at Volkswagen Arena. With the three points, Wolfsburg climbs level in points with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and only four points behind first place 1899 Hoffenheim.
Following the foul performance in the UEFA Cup against PSG Felix Magath made a number of lineups changes, notably with Peter Pekarík, Alexander Madlung and Sergej Karimow in for Sascha Riether, Sebastian Schindzielorz and Makoto Hasebe and injured ‘keeper Diego Benaglio was replaced by André Lenz and Peter Pekarik. After a scoreless first half, the Berliners took the lead two minutes past the hour with Cicero heading in Patrick Ebert’s cross from close range. Needing great attacking strength Felix Magath brought in both Alexander Esswein and Yoshito Okubo for Sergej Karimov and Alexander Madlung before the seventieth minute and it wasn’t long before Wolfsburg found the equalizers. With eighteen minutes remaining when Edin Džeko headed in Chrstian Gentner provision. Focused on the winner, only twelve minutes later Edin Džeko nodded in Marcel Schäfer’s cross to give Wolfsburg the 2-1 victory.
Wolfsburg returns to action next Thursday against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Cup.
