Wolfsburg overwhelms Hamburg 3-0
By: j | September 21st, 2008A sold-crowd at Volkswagen-Arena were treated to a stunning three goal outburst by Wolfsburg that left them ahead of visiting Hamburger SV 3-0 before the half-hour mark. Without additional scoring Wolfsburg was victorious 3-0 and catapults to sixth place in the Bundesliga.
While Martin Jol’s squad started fast, Wolfsburg got on the scoresheet first when a Marcel Schäfer cross at the fifteen minute mark found Ashkan Dejagah in-close and he efficiently put it in the back of the net. Only seven minutes later Sascha Riether found Alexander Madlung for an easy goal and the margin was doubled. With Hamburg pushing forward to draw one back, five minutes later a Wolfsburg counter-attack left Grafite in all alone, which is volleyed over shell-shocked Hamburg ‘keeper Frank Rost. With a three goal margin and the visitors hopes dwindling, Wolfsburg controlled play and Hamburg did not threaten Diego Benaglio with a serious shot in the rest of the match.
Wolfburg visit Karlsruher SC next Sunday in Bundesliga action.
