Wolfsburg stymied by BVB defenders
By: j | November 30th, 2008
Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp put together a brilliant tactical plan as his club silenced the Wolfburg attack on the way to a scoreless draw. It was only the second time die Wölfe had been held off the score-sheet this season, the other against Bayer Leverkusen and continues their winless record on the road. From a defending perspective Wolfsburg greatly limited the Dortmund side with their only notable efforts coming from Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan at the fourteenth and fifty-third minutes but both proved fruitless. Wolfsburg squandered a number of quality opportunities including Edin Džeko close-range miss two minutes before the half hour mark and equally were kept off the mark with BVB ‘keeper Roman Weidenfeller’s match-saving on Cristian Zaccardo’s header with twelve minutes remaining. With both squads taking a tough stance in the midfield, the match concluded as a nil draw.
The match leaves Wolfsburg in eighth place with twenty-three points. Wolfsburg returns to action this Thursday against Portsmouth in the UEFA Cup.

Barzagli, I hope you are doing well at Wolfsburg!! Selling you was the best move of the mercato for Palermo! We have replaced you quite well!

Good luck against Pompey this Thursday. Me think they can be had easily. Is Grafite still playing regularly?

So many visitors – thank you very much for joining me.
KJ, I understand your respect and interest in Palermo. It might surprise you to hear me say that I’m very glad it has worked out for both clubs. I not only think highly of the work Andrea Barzagli but always extremely hopeful that my Sicilian friends in Palermo do well.
Lorenzo, I am very partial to the defending aspect of Football and very appreciative of both Andrea’s contribution but Cristian Zaccardo’s as well. I have not liked the lack of playing time for Cristian but recently Wolfsburg manager as used him more and I suspect it is because he realizes if they are to climb the table they must defend better.
Ricci – Grafite has contributed on a regular basis and producing at a high rate although he has recently suffered a injury in training. If you have a chance to watch the matches Sir, please take a good look at the combination of Zvjezdan Misimović and Edin Džeko. Edin is only 22 and growing by leaps and bounds this year.
Once again, thanks for joining me

J, I’m just kidding with you. Barzagli was an overpaid baby with no heart in the last year with Palermo. We were happy to see him leave. On the other hand, I’m glad he has worked out for you.
Zaccardo was a personal favorite of mine. I was disappointed to see him leave Palermo. Lack of playing time? Has he not played well?

Zaccardo is also a favorite of mine I hope he succeeds and makes it back to the national team I think he can be a very talented attacking full back as well as a good defender.

KJ – I understand totally. While I question how accurate interviews are, as opposed to “publicity” type comments I wonder how both feel about leaving the Rosanero. I was shocked to say the least but also very excited about the promise of high quality defending in the Bundesliga. However after a few months the ideas of defending are far from what I hoped.
Cristian’s playing time hasn’t been what I assumed. I’m hopeful that Felix Magath will respect the defending aspect more with Christian front and center. If the club doesn’t make this change I don’t think they’ll come near their pre-season goals.
Palermo travels to Sardinia this weekend – it’ll be an exciting match.

Giro – I agree with you wholeheartedly. As far as the national side, I am not positive of how things will go for him in that corner.
