Wolfsburg v Bayer Leverkusen match preview
By: j | April 17th, 2009Die Wölfe put its stunning nine match winning streak on the line as Bayer Leverkusen visits Volkswagen Arena Saturday afternoon. Felix Magath’s Wolfsburg have catapulted to the top of the Bundesliga with the only blemish in the Rückrunde being their opening match draw against Köln.
With a win, Wolfsburg will not only match Borussia Mönchengladbach record of ten straight victories, set over twenty years ago but equally apply pressure on Bayern who are three points behind. While some are beginning to raise the improbable question if Wolfsburg could run the table in the second half of the year, Felix Magath is staying grounded:
“We must do all in our power to win on Saturday. For me, that has nothing to do with maintaining any sort of run or records which we can, or have already, set. We want to cement our position in the table. That’s all that counts!”
For Leverkusen, their fortunes have turned in the opposite direction during the new year. Visions of European football have all but disappeared as only won twice in the new year. Leverkusen coach Bruno Labbadia knows the deck is stacked against his side but challenged his men:
“As things stand, we’ve got to win our games and we’ll do all we can to achieve that aim.”
Both sides are without selection concerns as they are fully-fit.
