Wolfsburg v Bayern München match preview

By: j | April 2nd, 2009

Wolfsburg’s quest for the Bundesliga championship continues as Bayern München visits of Volkswagen Arena Saturday afternoon. Die Wölfe are far and away the the top performing side since the start of the Rückrunde with seven successive victories whist still maintaining their unbeaten record at home.

Through the international break a number of Wolfsburg’s players continued their record of success. Edin Džeko and Zvjezdan Misimović led the Plavo-žuti of Bosnia and Herzegovina to victories home and away over Beligium while Peter Pekarík contributed to Slovakia’s victory over the Czech Republic. Diego Benaglio was perfect between the posts for Switzerland’s as they lodged consecutive 2-0 victories over Moldova. Both Marcel Schäfer and Josué were honoured with selection to die Mannschaft and Seleção but did not figure. However the success of the international weekend has been tempered with the loss of Japanese international Makoto Hasebe to knee injury against Bahrain. The length of his absence has yet to be determined but otherwise Wolfsburg is ready to go.

Quickly Edin Džeko, Zvjezdan Misimović and Grafite have been justifiably recognized as the deadliest goal scoring trio in the Bundesliga. Against Jürgen Klinsmann’s Bayern side they not only face a unit that has pulled in their defensive ranks since the start of the campaign but will also have the services of Luca Toni back from injury and Franck Ribéry who has been in-form for Les Bleus.

All that aside, possibly the delicious aspect of the match is Felix Magath finally getting a chance to upend is former employer in route to the championship.
